Joe - I've heard of Loui's and have been looking for a reason to go though. If my family comes up this way for a baseball game again this summer, that's where we'll probably end up going.

Bill - I've heard the same about the Packzi's at L & L, but I actually prefer the cake-like ones...I know it's not right and not authentic...just a personal preference. We plan on donig some traveling up and down the coast this summer...I'll keep The Butler in mind. Thanks!

Julie - I was in Big Rapids a couple months ago and looked all over for someplace. No one had any suggestions...including the hotel employees! Wish I knew that then.

Scott - Is the Uccello's in Wayland somehow related to the Grand Rapids Uccello's? I've seen signs on my way back to Kalamazoo and always wondered about it.

Pamela - We don't get up north much, but next time we do, I'll will remember these suggestions.

Maria - I agree. It's one of the things I miss most about Lansing.

Very nice, Nick! When I read a column on food and it is mouthwatering, literally, aha! You have done your job and you have done it well. Now, for the big test...Try Elk Rapids, MI, where I have since moved from after living there for many years.

Tucked away is this tiny harbor town, located just beyond Traverse City, MI...Packed full of home-cooked meals and hungry hearts...Just thinking about it all, makes the mouth water and the stomach growl for more...Pearls New Orleans Kitchen, Red Bull Oasis Tavern "The O'Burgers" and "Bike Nite B.B.qued Chicken and Ribs..., Town Club, Vasquez Hacienda...Ummmmmmmm!!!!
Cannot vouge for hospitality, do not get back there often enough these days. However, I can vouge for Chef Charles Pizza....Umm...Chef Chuck, he's Greek and passionately lives through his mouthwatering foods, my daughter worked for him and this lucky mom was able to taste test some very authentic Greek foods! YUM! T.J. Charlies...Excellent Chefs, including my son, variety of menus, restaurants, etc. for such the small town!

Partial to and loving it everytime I do get a home-cooked meal from T.J. Charlie's Family Restaurant and get to watch my son, the chef, cook it! John, the owner, awesome family man and reasonable prices...If you ever travel up that way, tell them you are a secret shopper and Pamela sent you...LOL

I am a Grand Valley student and my friends and I call this our 2nd home because we are there so much! They have 3 locations, including one in Standale, which is the one we frequent, of course.
We love the big screen tv’s and drink specials. We think that it’s the best sports bar/restaurant in Grand Rapids. Once in awhile we order one of their freshly baked pizza’s (which they’re famous for), but I’m usually full after just one slice since they load up so much on the toppings!
You definitely get your money’s worth here, whether you’re dining in or getting something to go, they have never let me down. They always have daily specials posted on the website at www.uccellos.com Tom
