Thanks for all the kind words - it really was a great trip and the kids are still talking about it. @Katie Darrow - this was our second visit to Darrow's. The first was in 2007 and we all couldn't wait to come back! Darrow's is probably our family's all-time favorite place to eat.

Great story and photos; that's going to be one the young teens really remember with fondness! Michigan has some absolutely beautiful places to see and one of the very best is Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore - seeing some of Lake Superior and it's shoreline is downright inspiring/amazing. Really enjoyed reading your story.

My husband and I are taking a tour of MI in Sept. We have
invited friends from California to join us. We will do the East
coast and end up at the bed and breakfast at the Big Bay Lighthouse
north of Marquette. We will then leave the peninsula and travel the
West coast. We are very excited. It is a new adventure for us.
I love all the trip stories on this Pure Michigan website. Thanks

Enjoyed Melissa's great account of her travels in northern Michigan. Our family also visited there in early June 2010 and likewise had a wonderful time. We began at sister's home in the northwoods near Reed City, then drove up to Boyne Mtn for a week at that fabulous resort, touring nearby scenic places like Charlevoix and Harbor Springs, taking in farmer's markets and enjoying local restaurants, shops, and natural attractions (Boyne City's Avalanche Hill's magnificient view). The "Cross in the Woods" visit was an inspirational suprise attraction. The night view of the lighted great bridge from St Ignace's viewing park was another "spirit elevator." And, Mackinaw Island ! Love that place. Gotta return next year ... and every year for as long as we can travel. This Southerner loves Northern Michigan and thinks of it often.

Melissa,

Love your story! Adam did a great job with the photo's. You should have them entered in a contest. Glad the Mackey's had a great vacation!
